W. Optical was founded in 2013 by Aaron and Maria Winters, two experienced eye care professionals with more than 40 years of combined industry experience and a shared commitment to making eye care easy, convenient, and affordable.
What the "W" in W. Optical stands for?
It’s Winters—the family name behind the practice and the personal commitment at the heart of everything we do.
Maria brings extensive experience in optometry, ophthalmology, eyewear, and patient care, along with ABO and NCLE credentials. Aaron’s vision was shaped by years of leadership with leading eye care providers across multiple markets, inspiring him to create a locally based practice where patients could receive exceptional care without the complexity or high cost often associated with eye care.
What began in Grand Rapids has grown to five locations throughout West Michigan, while staying true to the values that started it all. W. Optical, making eye care easy, convenient, and affordable since 2013.

Maria Winters
Maria found her passion for eye care after earning her BA in Psychology from Western Michigan University—and nearly 20 years later, she’s still loving it. With experience in both the optometry and ophthalmology fields, she holds certifications from the American Board of Opticianry (ABOC) and the National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLEC). Maria brings expert care with a personal touch.
She loves helping patients find the perfect frames, dialing in lens comfort, and making eye health easy to understand. Her friendly, down-to-earth style has made her a go-to for patients.
When she’s not in the office, you’ll find her with her family, out exploring, or at home with her three dogs and her bearded dragon.
